Croatia in EU - your possibilities

Every EU citizen has the right to work and live in another EU country.  When moving within the EU, you may have questions such as:
Which country is responsible for my social security coverage? What happens to my old-age pension when I have worked in more than one EU country? Do I have a right to the same benefits as nationals of this EU country? Can I go to another Member State to look
for a job?


Moving within Europe
If moving to another EU country, you and your family’s social security rights are protected. As a Croatian living and working in Croatia, Croatia will cover your social rights and benefits. But if you move to another EU country and work there, for example Germany, then your social security coverage will be determined by German legislation. Your social security coverage includes for example healthcare, maternity benefits, family benefits, unemployment benefits and pension rights. Regarding to the social security coverage, you will be treated as a national in the EU country you live and work in. Only one country is responsible for your social security coverage at a time. Exceptions to that rule could be if your employer sends you to another country on a short assignment.

Working in Europe
If you move to another country and work there your rights are protected. If your employer for example goes bankrupt, you should register with the employment service in the country you work in and also apply for unemployment benefits there. Remember you should always register as a jobseeker and apply for unemployment benefits in the country in the country where you last lived and worked.
Specific rules apply to those who live in one country but work in another country. Every country applies different national legislation. This is where European Union legislation comes in. EU rules oblige the national institutions to take in account periods of insurance completed in other EU countries.  That means that it is possible to add up periods in different countries as to meet the national requirements.
Thanks to EU rules, a person that works in different countries has the same rights as a person who works in a single country.
EU rules also provide the possibility of continuing to receive benefits for three months with a possible extension of up to six months while looking for a job in another EU country. And without losing out on your social security rights. That is called social security coordination.

Healthcare in Europe
EU countries operate their own national social security and healthcare schemes, but EU regulations set down rules to coordinate the different schemes. This ensures that people who move between different EU countries are not at a disadvantage in relation to social security and healthcare.

Old-age pensions in Europe

What will happen to my old-age pension if I live and work in more than one country of the European Union?

Thanks to EU regulations, your rights are protected. When working in another EU country, your pension rights stay in that country till the day you are entitled to them. Your insurance records will be preserved in each country where you have worked. When you reach the pensionable age, you make your claim in the country where you live. The authorities in that country will inform the other EU countries about your claim and collect the information on your behalf. Each EU country must take into account your entire working life and pay you an old-age pension corresponding to your insurance record in that country. Every country in which you have been insured will pay you a separate pension.

Prosječna starosna mirovina za 40 i više godina mirovinskog staža prema ZOMO iznosi 3.396,63 kn, a njen udio u prosječnoj neto plaći u Republici Hrvatskoj za lipanj 2016. (5.686kn) iznosi 59,74%.

Prosječna svota doplatka za djecu ( bez razlika za prethodne mjesece) iznosi 364,94 kn.

Prosječna svota doplatka za djecu ( sa razlikama za prethodne mjesece) iznosi 373,62 kn.

Procjena potrebnih sredstva za isplatu doplatka za djecu iznose 132.000.000 kn.
